Kia has unveiled its EV2 Concept at the brand’s annual EV day, offering a first look at its upcoming entry-level electric vehicle slated for release in 2026.

The compact urban SUV concept was revealed alongside updated information on Kia’s EV4 saloon/hatchback and PV5 van. Like previous concept vehicles from the South Korean manufacturer, the EV2 Concept likely previews key design elements that will appear in the production model.

Kia president and CEO Ho Sung Song introduced the concept, stating: “With the Concept EV2, we challenged ourselves to create a vehicle that defies expectations, offering innovative technology and practicality beyond its size.

“This concept previews Kia’s future vision to redefine the segment, bringing a new level of sophistication and usability to urban drivers. It’s a clear signal of our dedication to making electric vehicles truly accessible for everyone.”

The EV2 shares design DNA with other Kia electric vehicles, featuring the flat bonnet and upright front end seen on the EV3 and EV9. It incorporates the brand’s signature vertical “star map” lighting, though the EV2 uses exposed lamps without glass covers.

Short overhangs emphasize the vehicle’s compact dimensions, while black body cladding adds a rugged appearance.

The concept includes several features that likely won’t reach production, including rear-hinged back doors and digital message screens embedded in the doors.

Inside, Kia has created what it calls a “multi-configurable interior” where the rear seats fold up, allowing the one-piece front bench to slide all the way back. This configuration provides more space for stretching out during charging sessions or even picnicking on the car’s flat floor.

Diagonal LED lights in the front doors mark the separation between front and rear cabin areas, echoing triangular design elements found in the metal lower dashboard, cabin lights, and removable door speakers.

While many concept features may not reach production, vehicle-to-load functionality and over-the-air updates will certainly be included. The pop-up luggage dividers might also make it to the final version.

Technical specifications remain undisclosed, but industry observers expect the EV2 will share the E-GMP platform with the EV3 and EV4. Given its urban focus, it may utilize a smaller motor and battery configuration than its siblings, which feature a 201bhp motor paired with either 53kWh or 81kWh batteries.

When it arrives in 2026, the production EV2 will compete with other compact electric SUVs including the Renault 4, Citroen E-C3 Aircross, and Hyundai Inster in both European and UK markets.
