Kia announced order books for its new EV4 Fastback are now open, with pricing starting at £40,895.
The four-door electric saloon serves as the premium sibling to the EV4 Hatchback. It’s Kia’s first all-electric saloon and sits above the five-door model despite sharing the same platform.
While the hatchback starts around £35,000, the EV4 Fastback begins just under £41,000 and tops out at £45,395. The saloon will only be available in GT-Line and GT-Line S trim levels – no base model option.
The fastback comes exclusively with the larger 81.4kWh battery pack.
That battery gives the streamlined saloon a WLTP range of 380 miles. That’s 18 miles more than the equivalent hatchback thanks to better aerodynamics. Fast charging tops out at 127kW, allowing a 10-80% charge in 31 minutes.
All versions use a single 201bhp motor driving the front wheels. The setup delivers 0-62mph acceleration in 7.9 seconds.
Design and Aerodynamics
Kia positioned the EV4 as a smaller companion to the five-door EV6. The new model features a traditional four-door saloon layout hidden by a steeply raked tail that disguises the saloon boot.
The slippery exterior design includes active aero elements and a near-flat underfloor.
According to Kia, the EV4 Fastback is their most aerodynamic EV yet. The swooping body stretches the footprint 30cm longer than the EV4 hatch. However, the wheelbase and interior space remain identical.
Boot space increases from 435 litres in the hatchback to 490 litres in the saloon.
Interior Features
Inside, the EV4 Fastback shares its layout with higher-spec versions of the hatchback. A three-screen “connected car Navigation Cockpit” sits above the dashboard – housing digital instruments, climate control, and Kia’s latest infotainment system.
The EV4 keeps a bank of physical controls below the screens. There’s also a deep two-level centre console with wireless phone charging.
Kia uses sustainable and recycled materials throughout, including synthetic leather upholstery and customisable ambient lighting.
The entry-level GT-Line costs £40,895 and includes heated front seats, wireless Android and Apple mirroring, and automatic LED headlights. Highway drive assist comes with lane keep and adaptive cruise control as standard.
Other features include keyless entry, a six-speaker stereo, and 19-inch alloy wheels.
The top GT-Line S starts at £45,385 and adds a powered tailgate, adaptive headlights, and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. It also includes a head-up display, remote parking assist, and a 360-degree camera system.
The GT-Line S gets heated rear seats and ventilated “relaxation” front seats that fully recline with a single button press.
Special Modes
Two new modes enhance the charging and entertainment experience. Rest mode reclines the seats and turns off displays and dynamic ambient lighting for a peaceful environment during charging stops.
Theatre mode works with the car’s onboard streaming capabilities. It positions the seats for viewing and dims the lighting to focus attention on the 12.3-inch central screen.
Both models include Kia’s full suite of driver assistance systems as standard. A heat pump costs £900 extra and it’s only available on the GT-Line S.
Orders for the EV4 Fastback are open now. First customer deliveries are expected this autumn.
