Kia has unveiled the EV5 GT at the Brussels Motor Show, marking the brand’s latest push into high-performance electric SUVs.
The sporty family hauler packs over 300 horsepower and targets the Skoda Enyaq vRS in the competitive performance SUV market.
Set to arrive in late 2026, the EV5 GT joins Kia’s expanding GT lineup with a focus on combining speed with SUV practicality. The company says it will “combine performance with the versatility customers expect from larger SUVs.”
Power and Performance
A dual-motor all-wheel-drive system powers the EV5 GT. The front motor produces 208 horsepower while a rear unit adds 94 horsepower for a combined 302 horsepower output.
That’s nearly 100 horsepower more than the standard EV5. The power boost drops the 0-62 mph time from 8.4 seconds to 6.2 seconds.
The acceleration still trails competitors like the 335-horsepower Enyaq vRS and Ford Capri, which hits 62 mph in 5.3 seconds using a similar AWD setup.
Kia emphasizes that the EV5 GT focuses on more than straight-line speed. The SUV features a specially-tuned chassis with electronically controlled suspension calibrated for sportier handling.
Advanced Suspension Technology
The suspension system includes road preview technology that scans ahead and adjusts settings for upcoming surface changes. This provides smoother rides and better control – similar to systems found in luxury vehicles.
Twenty-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires enhance grip and handling.
The EV5 GT borrows the virtual gearshift system from the EV6 GT and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. This creates a simulated sequential gearbox controlled through regenerative braking paddles, complete with artificial engine sounds that respond to throttle inputs.
Range and Charging
The same 81.4kWh battery from the standard EV5 sits beneath the GT’s floor. Kia hasn’t released official range figures, but expect a decrease from the front-wheel-drive model’s 329-mile capability due to the added power and weight.
DC fast charging remains at 127kW, allowing 10-80% charging in about 30 minutes.
Visual changes include exclusive exterior trim elements distinguishing it from GT-Line models. Inside, semi-bucket seats and a GT-specific steering wheel create a sportier cabin environment.
Equipment and Pricing
Standard features match the top GT-Line S specification, including adaptive LED headlights, powered tailgate, head-up display, and remote smart parking.
UK pricing hasn’t been announced yet. The current range-topping front-wheel-drive EV5 costs £47,145, while the rival Enyaq vRS starts just over £51,600.
Expect the EV5 GT to start around £50,000 when it reaches showrooms.
The EV5 GT debuts alongside GT versions of the smaller EV3 SUV and EV4 hatchback models at the Brussels show. Kia also previewed the compact EV2, its smallest electric vehicle that will compete with the Renault 4 and Ford Puma Gen-E when sales begin this spring.
