Kia unveiled its EV5 WKNDR concept at the Guangzhou Auto Show, showcasing a rugged transformation of its mid-sized electric SUV with serious off-road capabilities.
The EV5 Weekender marks Kia’s fourth electric vehicle to receive the adventure treatment. It joins the PV5 WKNDR and EV9 ADVNTR concept that debuted at SEMA in Las Vegas.
Design and Features
Kia China’s design team developed the WKNDR with aggressive all-terrain tires and blacked-out six-spoke wheels. The SUV sits higher than the standard EV5 – making it ready for mountain trails and river crossings.
The exterior gets wider wheel arches and chunky side sills for that go-anywhere look.
A mounting bracket sits on the hood while a roof rack handles extra gear. Both front and rear bumpers are blacked out with “WKNDR” lettering embossed across them.
The concept wears Kia’s signature matte beige finish with lime green accents. That lime green carries into the cabin, where you’ll find a redesigned steering wheel, matching seats, and updated dashboard panels. A screen stretches across to the passenger side of the interior.
Powertrain Possibilities
Kia hasn’t confirmed if the EV5 WKNDR will reach production. But the off-road focus suggests it would likely use the upcoming dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing either 261 or 302 horsepower.
The standard EV5 opened for orders in September with UK deliveries expected by year’s end.
Right now, buyers get one powertrain option – a front-mounted electric motor paired with an 81.4kWh battery pack. That setup delivers up to 329 miles of range on a single charge.
Pricing starts at £39,295 for the base Air trim. The GT Line costs £42,595 while the range-topping GT Line S runs £47,095 before options.
The WKNDR concept shows Kia’s commitment to making electric vehicles work for adventure seekers who need more than city driving capability.
