Leapmotor released teaser images of its upcoming electric hatchback – the B05 – ahead of its debut at next week’s Munich motor show. The Stellantis-backed Chinese manufacturer positions the car as a direct competitor to the Volkswagen ID.3.

The B05 will slot between Leapmotor’s current T03 city car and C10 SUV when it arrives in Europe early next year.

Leapmotor plans a starting price below £30,000 for the electric hatchback. The company promises a 260-mile range from the car’s 67.1kWh battery pack, with a front-mounted motor delivering 215bhp.

The 4.3-meter B05 – also called the Lafa 5 in China – serves as a lower, more affordable version of the upcoming B10 crossover that’s set to reach UK showrooms in the coming months.

Design Details

The B05 features curved LED headlights and sculpted body panels. Retractable door handles provide a clean side profile, while a sporty roof spoiler reminds viewers of the discontinued VW Scirocco.

Inside, the B05’s cabin will likely adopt the screen-heavy approach seen in Leapmotor’s larger C10 and B10 models.

“The car is a gift for young motorists across the world,” says Leapmotor vice president Cao Li. The company aims to “build a car for young people who refuse to settle, conform, or be ordinary.”

Expansion Plans

The B05 represents the fourth of six Leapmotor models planned for UK sales by 2026. An A10 crossover will follow, targeting competitors like the upcoming VW ID.2X and Skoda Epiq.

Leapmotor currently offers in-house EV discounts across its range. The company provides £1,500 off the T03 and £3,750 off the C10.

These price cuts bring the T03’s starting price to £14,495 and the C10’s to £32,750.
