Leapmotor has launched its own discount scheme offering up to £3,750 off its electric cars. The Chinese brand wants to give buyers immediate savings while they wait for the government’s new EV grant program.
The company’s “Leap-Grant” cuts £1,500 off its T03 city car and £3,750 off the larger C10 SUV. Both discounts started immediately.
Leapmotor, which is part-owned by Stellantis, says it’s responding to customer uncertainty about the upcoming government scheme.
“While the government’s upcoming EV grant scheme is a welcome step, consumers are still waiting to learn which vehicles will qualify, how much financial support will be available, and when the grants will take effect,” the company said.
The move makes the T03 Britain’s cheapest new electric car at £14,495 – undercutting the Dacia Spring by £500.
The C10 now starts at £32,750, positioning it as a budget alternative to the Skoda Enyaq. Leapmotor’s also offering 0% finance deals with just a one-month deposit.
That means buyers can get a T03 for £169 down and £169 per month on PCP finance. The C10 costs £319 monthly with the same deposit structure.
Government Grant Concerns
The official EV grant scheme won’t launch until mid-August. Even then, cars built in China might only qualify for the lower £1,500 government discount rather than the full amount.
Damien Dally, Leapmotor UK’s managing director, says the company wanted to give customers “clarity, confidence, and immediate savings.”
Production location could determine grant eligibility. The government’s expected to favor European-built cars over Chinese models because of their lower carbon footprint during manufacturing.
China’s energy grid relies more heavily on fossil fuels than Europe’s – making the production process less environmentally friendly.
If Chinese-built cars only get the smaller grant, other budget models like the Dacia Spring, Mini Cooper, and Kia EV3 might face the same restriction.
Leapmotor’s betting that offering guaranteed savings now will appeal to buyers who don’t want to wait for government clarity. The company’s trying to build momentum in the UK market where it only launched recently.
The T03 competes in the city car segment with its compact size and urban-focused design. The C10 targets families looking for electric SUV space without premium pricing.
Both models come from Leapmotor’s partnership with Stellantis, which gives the Chinese brand access to European distribution and manufacturing expertise.
