Maybach VLS Introduces New Era of Luxury Electric People Carrier image

Mercedes has revealed the first teaser image of its upcoming Maybach VLS – a luxury electric vehicle that will sit at the top of the brand’s people carrier lineup.

The VLS shares its electric-only VAN.EA platform with the VLE luxury people carrier, giving it the same underlying technology as Mercedes’ other premium electric vehicles.

Ola Källenius, Mercedes’ chief executive, unveiled the Maybach VLS alongside the updated Maybach S-Class. He described it as a “grand limousine” featuring a “first-class interior.”

Mercedes says the cabin will feel like an “extraordinary private lounge.”

Interior Features and Seating Options

The Maybach VLS will offer multiple seating configurations. The most luxurious option is an ultra-exclusive two-seat arrangement based on 2025’s Vision V concept vehicle.

These premium seats include pillows, calf and lumbar support, massage functions, and built-in wireless phone charging.

So far, Mercedes has only shown the distinctive three ‘M’ Maybach logo on the VLS’ C-pillar. The company hasn’t released additional images or details about the cabin’s luxury features.

However, the VLS will likely include a version of the VLE’s optional ‘MBUX Rear Space Experience’ system. This entertainment package adds a massive 31.3-inch 8K screen and an eight-megapixel camera for watching movies, gaming, or video conferencing.

Performance and Charging Capabilities

Mercedes hasn’t released specific technical details for the VLS. But since it uses the same platform as the VLE, performance should be similar.

The VLE delivers up to 435 miles of range from its large 115kWh battery pack paired with a 268bhp electric motor.

The dedicated EV 800V architecture enables incredibly fast charging – adding 220 miles of range in just 15 minutes at compatible charging stations.

Launch Timeline and Pricing

The standard VLE launches later this year. The Maybach VLS won’t arrive until 2027.

Given its luxury positioning and the prestigious Maybach nameplate, the VLS is expected to carry a six-figure price tag.

The Maybach VLS represents growing demand for premium electric people carriers. Its main competitors include the Lexus LM, LEVC L380, and the China-only Volvo EM90.

More affordable electric MPV options include the Volkswagen ID Buzz and upcoming Kia PV5.
