Mercedes-AMG will reveal its first ground-up electric car in June, positioning it as a super-saloon competitor to the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and Audi E-Tron GT RS Performance.

The new EV will replace the V8-powered GT 4-door coupe. AMG previewed several design elements in its Vision 2025 concept from 2022, which showcased how the performance division plans to differentiate its EVs from standard Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles.

AMG recently confirmed the June reveal through an image posted on social media, though no specific date was provided.

This marks AMG’s fourth bespoke vehicle, following the SLS, AMG GT, and GT 4-Door models. The teaser image reveals an extremely low-slung profile with muscular front and rear haunches, extensive bonnet, and generous rear overhang.

Spy shots indicate the super-saloon will feature an active spoiler and a Kamm tail – departing from the rounded rear-ends Mercedes has used since the mid-2000s. The front showcases aggressive vertical strakes and Mercedes’ signature three-pointed star motif integrated into the headlights. The car rides on 21-inch wheels, emphasizing its performance focus.

The design evokes a modern interpretation of the Bruno Sacco-penned Mercedes AMG saloons from the 1990s.

While AMG hasn’t revealed full technical details, the company confirmed this super-saloon will be the first vehicle built on the all-new AMG.EA electric architecture. Unlike AMG’s versions of Mercedes EQ models, this platform is developed specifically for high-performance EVs. The architecture incorporates power-dense, slimline axial flux motors from Mercedes-owned Yasa.

Yasa has confirmed its single motors used in Mercedes production cars weigh just 24kg while producing 590lb ft of torque and 480bhp. With the anticipated flat battery pack and dual-motor setup, the upcoming super-saloon could potentially match the 1,000bhp and 1,000lb ft of torque seen in the AMG One-Eleven supercar concept.

Pricing remains unconfirmed, but the new model is expected to start well into six-figure territory, in line with the Taycan Turbo S and E-Tron GT RS Performance.
