Mercedes is preparing to launch 15 new or updated electric vehicles by 2027, according to investor documents reviewed by automotive analysts.
The German automaker describes this rollout as “the biggest product launch programme” in company history. These models come after the recently-introduced CLA saloon and CLA shooting brake.
The Mercedes GLC SUV will likely debut first from this new lineup. It’s scheduled for public reveal at the Munich motor show this September.
Three-Tier Strategy
Mercedes has organized the upcoming releases into three categories.
The ‘Entry’ tier kicks off with two models arriving next year. While the Stuttgart-based company hasn’t confirmed specifics, these are expected to be updated versions of the GLA and GLB crossovers.
The “Core” range follows with one model debuting next year and another in 2027. The first should be the new GLC SUV alongside an electric C-Class saloon. An estate version of the C-Class will arrive the following year.
The ‘Top-End’ category includes five models set for 2026 – with five more arriving in 2027.
These premium releases are expected to be refreshed versions of the EQE and EQS saloons, plus their SUV counterparts. The lineup will also include Mercedes’ answer to the Volvo EM90 – a luxury minivan called the VLE.
A road-going version of the recently-unveiled AMG GT XX super saloon is planned for the 2027 launches.
Design Reset
Mercedes has faced criticism over its current electric offerings. Issues range from quality control problems to polarizing styling choices.
The company recently announced its EVs will adopt a more traditional design language starting with the GLC. This 15-model push represents a reset for Mercedes’ electric strategy.
The timing coincides with increasing competition in the luxury EV space. Mercedes is betting this comprehensive refresh will address earlier missteps while positioning the brand for the next phase of electrification.
