MG has confirmed the Cyberster GTS coupe will enter production, potentially launching as early as this year.

The 2+2 hardtop concept, first unveiled at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, is officially moving from concept to reality. While MG initially avoided committing to production plans, the company’s chief designer has now confirmed the vehicle’s future.

Jozef Kaban – the designer behind the Bugatti Veyron – told reporters at the Shanghai motor show that “it’s coming.” He credited the positive reception at Goodwood for pushing the project forward.

While no specific launch date was announced, this October marks 60 years since the original MG B GT debut – creating a natural opportunity for the new model’s introduction.

Technical specifications remain unconfirmed, but the GTS will likely share components with the convertible Cyberster.

This would mean either a 335bhp rear-wheel-drive setup or a 503hp all-wheel-drive configuration. The more powerful version delivers 0-62mph acceleration in just 3.2 seconds in the convertible model. Both variants would likely use the same 77kWh battery that provides between 276 and 316 miles of range.

Kaban made the announcement while unveiling the MG Cyber X concept – a rugged SUV that could become the third model in a potential Cyber sub-brand, marking a shift from MG’s budget-focused EV strategy.

The Cyber X represents a significant departure from MG’s typical designs. Its boxy profile draws clear inspiration from vehicles like the Land Rover Defender and Mercedes G-Class.

At 4.3m long, the compact EV is shorter than the new MG 5S and comparable to the MG ZS in size. However, its distinctive shape and features like pop-up headlights suggest MG is targeting a different customer base.

While MG hasn’t confirmed production plans for the Cyber X, the company’s track record with the Cyberster models and the rapid development capabilities of Chinese manufacturers suggest a production version of the electric crossover could arrive soon.
