MG’s premium IM brand has arrived in Europe with the debut of two models at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The IM5 fastback and IM6 SUV represent MG’s push into premium electric territory – targeting Tesla, Polestar, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi buyers.

IM stands for ‘Intelligent Mobility’ and was first announced at the 2024 Geneva International Motor Show.

Both models have been selling in China and Australia since last year. The IM5 competes with the Mercedes EQE while the IM6 goes head-to-head with the BMW iX.

Despite their premium positioning, MG expects to significantly undercut established rivals on price.

According to MG, pricing will start below the current Cyberster Trophy’s £54,995 starting price.

New Platform and Technology

The IM models run on an entirely new 800V platform that’s separate from MG’s existing EV lineup. This architecture supports improved 75kWh and 100kWh battery options.

The larger battery paired with dual motors gives the IM5 a 0-62mph time under 3.5 seconds.

IM cars get their own futuristic logos inside and out while keeping subtle ‘MG Motor’ badges on the tailgate. The visual separation helps distinguish the premium brand from regular MG models.

Both vehicles share the same platform, running gear, and 2.9-meter wheelbase. Their design takes a more aerodynamic approach than current MG models.

The IM5 looks like a sedan but features a hatchback-style tailgate. The IM6 follows coupe-SUV styling and offers up to 665 liters of cargo space.

Interior and Features

Inside, both models share the same cabin layout with premium materials and finishes.

A massive 23-inch screen dominates the dashboard, handling both instrument and infotainment duties. A smaller 10-inch screen sits in the center console – similar to the Porsche Taycan’s setup.

MG says the IM5 and IM6 take a ‘technology-first’ approach. In Australia, both cars use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 processor to power their systems.

The Australian models also include:

  • One-touch parking functions
  • One-touch curbside parking
  • One-touch pull-out assist
  • One-touch reverse assist
  • Rainy night mode using AI for wet weather driving

MG will begin taking European orders in July 2025. Full pricing and specification details are expected closer to the order opening date.
