MG is launching two new electric models in the UK by mid-2026 as the Sino-British brand accelerates its transition to an all-electric lineup.
The company’s preparing both vehicles for release in the first half of next year. MG has also hinted that a compact hatchback rival to the Renault 5 could arrive later, alongside its eye-catching Cyber X SUV concept.
Guy Pigounakis, MG’s sales director, confirmed the first new model will arrive by February during the launch of the new MGS6 EV. This vehicle will slot below the existing MG4 in the brand’s hierarchy.
Spring will bring the second new model.
This one’s positioned between the current MG4 and the MGS5 in MG’s range.
Pigounakis didn’t provide specifics on either model but said the February arrival represents an entirely new segment for MG. That suggests it could be a compact SUV competing with the Renault 4, BYD Atto 2 and Suzuki E Vitara.
The second new model appears closer to the MG4 hatchback than the MGS5, based on market briefing materials. This could be the MG4’s replacement – a model already unveiled in China earlier this year.
If current MG4 sales cease, MG will have eight electric models available in the UK by mid-2026.
That’s a dramatic expansion from just two models – the MG4 and Cyberster – for much of 2025.
Expanding Electric Portfolio
The two new vehicles will join the MGS5 and MG6S in MG’s mainstream lineup. The brand’s also adding premium-focused models:
- IM5 saloon
- IM6 SUV
- Cyberster roadster
- Incoming Cyberster GTS coupe
David Allison, MG’s boss, has suggested the brand could launch a compact hatchback by 2027. This model would likely carry the MG2 name and target the Renault 5 and Citroen E-C3.
“A small hatchback was an ‘obvious’ area of the market to explore and MG ‘will absolutely be in there,'”
Allison told Autocar.
That model will arrive alongside a production version of the Cyber X SUV. This Land Rover Defender-sized vehicle is intended for MG’s new “Cyber” sub-brand as one of the company’s halo models.
The Cyber X debuted as a concept at the 2025 Shanghai Motor Show.
MG’s track record of quickly converting concepts like the Cyberster and Cyberster GTS into production vehicles suggests the Cyber X could reach showrooms by 2027.
The aggressive expansion timeline reflects MG’s commitment to electrification as traditional automakers face increasing pressure to transition away from internal combustion engines. The brand’s positioning across multiple price points – from mainstream to premium – indicates it’s targeting broad market coverage in the competitive EV space.
