MG will launch its next all-electric model, the MGS5 EV, in the UK in spring 2025, reinforcing the brand’s focus on affordable electric vehicles.
The new electric SUV will replace the MG ZS EV, which has been a key model in establishing MG’s reputation for budget-friendly electric cars since its 2019 introduction.
Built on the MSP platform shared with the MG4 hatchback, the MGS5 EV’s technical specifications remain unconfirmed. The MG4 currently offers 49kWh or 64kWh battery options paired with rear-mounted motors producing between 168bhp and 242bhp, with a maximum range of 323 miles. The SUV’s larger size and weight will likely reduce this range somewhat if using the same powertrain configuration.
All-wheel-drive could be an option for the SUV, though it’s unclear if it would receive the full 429bhp available in the MG4’s XPower specification.
The company promises the MGS5 EV will feature a new interior design with “advanced and premium features” — potentially addressing a known weakness across MG’s current lineup.
“The MGS5 EV has all the credentials to impress, a generously equipped and spacious SUV but with the all-electric performance that MG customers enjoy so much,” said David Allison, head of product and planning for MG Motor UK. “In terms of cabin ambience and technology this model will offer a new and greatly enhanced MG experience.”
MG plans to reveal additional details about the MGS5 EV in the coming weeks.
