MG will unveil its upcoming electric supermini at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. The new model is set for a 2027 launch.
The car will almost certainly be called the MG2. Teaser images from the MG show a new, sportier design approach that’s different from its recent electric vehicles like the MG4 Urban and MG5.
The images reveal a Mini-like front end with rounded headlights and a smooth profile. There’s an MG badge on the C-pillar, vertical LED tail-lights, and a roof spoiler.
David Allison, MG’s head of product and planning, spoke about the supermini earlier this year.
“When that car comes, it will be completely different to the MG4 Urban in terms of its look, in terms of its design and in terms of its position. And that’s how we continue to evolve. That gives us the ability to sell something else to somebody else.”
He explained that adding a supermini to MG’s lineup would help create sustainable growth after several years of rapid expansion.
While the MG2 will focus on value, it won’t be the cheapest car in its class anymore.
Technical Details and Pricing
The MG2 will use the same Modular Scalable Platform as the MG4. This suggests it’ll be rear-wheel-drive and offered with either a 43kWh or 54kWh battery pack.
Range should reach up to 258 miles on a single charge.
The MG2 is expected to cost around £20,000. This puts it directly against the Renault 5, Volkswagen ID Polo, and the upcoming Ford Fiesta replacement.
Festival Reveals
A second “aspirational” model will also debut at next month’s Festival of Speed 2026.
Jozef Kaban, MG’s global design vice president, will unveil both vehicles.
Chinese Automaker Presence
MG isn’t the only Chinese automaker making a big statement at the Festival of Speed. BYD has created a massive 2,016 square metre display featuring multiple brands.
BYD’s showcase includes the new Denza Z9 GT, the record-breaking Yangwang U9 Xtreme, the new Dolphin G DM-i plug-in hybrid, and the upcoming Ti7 SUV.
