Mitsubishi has unveiled its second-generation all-electric Eclipse Cross as a redesigned version of the Renault Scenic.
The Eclipse Cross shares the same SUV profile as the award-winning Renault. But it sets itself apart from its French sibling through Mitsubishi’s new “Smart Armor” design language. This features a “Dynamic Shield” grille and six-tiered daytime running lights.
The rear design keeps the Scenic’s taillights. Mitsubishi separates them with a gloss black panel for a more rugged look.
Interior Design and Technology
Inside, the electric Eclipse Cross uses the same dashboard and layout as the Scenic. Both cars share a Google-based 12.3-inch infotainment system that works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The biggest difference? Mitsubishi’s diamond-quilted seats and the badge on the steering wheel.
The Eclipse Cross EV runs on the same AmpR platform as the Scenic – borrowing its powertrain directly from Renault. With the 87kWh battery, the electric Mitsubishi delivers 372 miles on a single charge and charges at up to 150kW.
Performance and Range Options
The rear-wheel drive, single-motor setup produces 215bhp with 221lb ft of torque.
Next year, Mitsubishi will release a medium-range Eclipse Cross EV. This version uses the base Scenic’s 60kWh battery and 168bhp motor.
The Eclipse Cross will be built in Renault’s dedicated EV factory in Douai – making it the first Mitsubishi built in France. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet. The all-electric Eclipse Cross will be sold in Europe but won’t reach the UK anytime soon.
Alliance Strategy
The Eclipse Cross EV continues Mitsubishi’s strategy of rebadging Renault vehicles under its Alliance agreement with Renault and Nissan.
The current lineup includes:
- Colt (Renault Clio)
- ASX (Renault Captur)
- New Grandis (Renault Symbioz)
This approach lets Mitsubishi offer modern electric vehicles while leveraging Renault’s EV technology and manufacturing capabilities.
