A UK start-up has launched an EV charging app that promises more reliable charger tracking and smarter navigation for electric car drivers.
OneEV combines mapping, pricing information and payment systems after its founders became frustrated with existing charging apps as new EV owners.
Tim Moore and Lyndon Gough took delivery of their electric cars in 2024. They quickly ran into problems with unreliable apps, outdated charger information and confusing pricing details.
“The cars were cutting-edge, but the ownership experience felt clunky and disconnected,” Moore said. “We set out to create one platform that would transform not just charging, but the entire EV lifestyle.”
The pair researched the industry and found charge point data was only around 65% reliable.
When they raised concerns with data providers, they say the companies dismissed the issues. The providers claimed no other roaming partners had complained about data accuracy.
Moore and Gough decided to build their own solution.
OneEV now claims 99.8% accuracy for charger status information. Drivers can trust that a charger will work if the app shows it’s available.
“If the data is broken, the driver experience will be broken too,” Gough said. “We took the harder path – self-funding, pushing partners for higher standards, and refusing to cut corners – because we knew drivers deserved better.”
App Features and Coverage
The app bundles several functions into one platform. Users get charger mapping with live availability updates, clear pricing details and the ability to pay for charging sessions directly through the app.
OneEV currently covers around 19,000 charge points across the UK and Ireland. That’s just under a quarter of the total charging network.
The app includes a marketplace for EV products and lifestyle services. Users can browse home charger providers, insurance options and test drive offers – features not typically found in other charging apps.
UK Charging Network Growth
The UK’s charging infrastructure continues expanding rapidly. More than 84,000 charging devices operate at almost 42,000 locations nationwide.
Latest data from Zapmap shows the public network has grown 26% since July 2024.
Rapid and ultra-rapid chargers are growing faster than slower charging devices. This shift addresses one of the main concerns for EV drivers – finding fast charging when they need it most.
The launch comes as more drivers switch to electric vehicles and demand better charging experiences. OneEV’s focus on data accuracy could address one of the most common frustrations among EV owners.
