Ferrari has revived its legendary Testarossa nameplate as a 1,035-horsepower plug-in hybrid that rockets from 0-62mph in 2.35 seconds. The new supercar replaces the SF90 in Ferrari’s lineup.

The 849 Testarossa sits below the limited-edition F80 flagship in Maranello’s mid-engine hierarchy. It’s capable of exceeding 210mph at the top end.

Power and Performance Details

Ferrari’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 produces 818 horsepower and 621 lb-ft of torque on its own – more than double the output of the original 1980s Testarossa.

The electric side uses the same tri-motor setup as the SF90. Two motors power the front axle while one handles the rear, combining for 217 horsepower.

That gives the 849 Testarossa 48 more horsepower than its predecessor overall.

Ferrari says it’s improved the brake regeneration feel and thermal efficiency of the hybrid system. The performance band of the three electric motors has been widened as a result.

All-electric range remains at 15 miles from a 7.45kWh battery pack – unchanged from the SF90.

Engineering Updates

The 849 Testarossa weighs 1,570kg with a 45/55 weight distribution. Those figures match the SF90 exactly.

Ferrari focused on “increasing power, tire grip, and response” with several key updates:

  • Bigger brake discs and pads throughout
  • Suspension springs that are 35% lighter
  • Smoother acceleration mapping in third gear
  • Choice of Michelin, Pirelli, or Bridgestone tires

The aerodynamics generate 415kg of downforce at 155mph. Ferrari says 35% comes from underbody airflow and a new diffuser.

The rear wing switches between low-drag and high-downforce modes. It can produce up to 100kg of downforce in the latter setting.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the driver gets an almost wraparound dashboard with central arm-mounted gear selectors. A small touchscreen handles climate controls alongside an Apple CarPlay and Android Auto-compatible digital display.

The steering wheel features Ferrari’s eManettino switch for drive modes: eDrive, Hybrid, Performance, and Qualify.

In Qualify mode, the 849 Testarossa laps Ferrari’s Fiorano test track just 0.2 seconds slower than the track-focused SF90 XX.

Pricing and Availability

European pricing starts at €460,000 (£398,260) for the coupe and €500,000 (£432,890) for the convertible spider version.

The performance-focused Assetto Fiorano package adds €52,500 (£45,450) to either variant. This version sheds 30kg through composite materials.

UK pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Ferrari plans to launch its first all-electric model on October 9. The vehicle is rumored to be an SUV based on modified Maserati Levante underpinnings.
