Genesis has opened order books for its updated G80 electric luxury sedan, with pricing starting at £75,616 for the all-electric model.
The Genesis G80 goes head-to-head with the BMW i5, Mercedes EQE, and Volvo S90 in the premium EV space.
Battery and Performance
The G80 packs an updated 94.5kWh battery that delivers 354 miles of WLTP range. DC fast charging from 10% to 80% takes 25 minutes at optimal charging speeds.
Power comes from a dual-motor setup producing 365bhp and 516lb ft of torque. The sedan hits 0-62mph in 5.1 seconds.
Like Genesis’ GV60 and GV70 EVs, the G80 features Virtual Gear Shift technology. This system simulates traditional gearbox feel and sound – a bridge between ICE and EV driving experiences.
Design Updates
Genesis has refined the G80’s exterior while keeping its signature proportions. The front end features the brand’s crest grille design, now paired with standard 19-inch alloy wheels.
The updated model comes exclusively in extended wheelbase form. This adds 13cm to the car’s overall length – extra space that benefits rear passengers.
Inside, a 27-inch curved display combines the infotainment system and driver cluster into one piece. The setup reduces screen clutter while maintaining physical controls for key functions.
New tech includes biometric recognition and Genesis’ smartphone-based Digital Key 2 system for keyless entry and starting.
Practical Features
The G80 includes several thoughtful touches for daily use. An anti-bacterial storage compartment sits within the front armrest.
‘Tunnel Mode’ automatically closes windows and activates air conditioning in enclosed spaces like parking garages – protecting occupants from exhaust fumes and poor air quality.
Standard equipment covers most luxury expectations. A 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system handles audio duties, while active road noise cancelling keeps the cabin quiet.
Safety tech includes collision avoidance, parking assist systems, and a 360-degree camera setup. Digital blind-spot monitors replace traditional mirror setups, and a head-up display keeps key information in the driver’s sightline.
Options and Pricing
Genesis offers several upgrade packages for the G80. The £2,640 second-row comfort pack adds power-closing doors, electric side window blinds, and one-touch rear curtains.
A £2,620 Nappa leather package upgrades interior materials. Rear-wheel steering costs £1,120 and should improve maneuverability in tight spaces.
Smaller options include £240 white brake calipers and a £300 Vehicle-to-Load system that lets the car power external devices.
The G80 represents Genesis’ push into the premium EV market – combining luxury sedan comfort with modern electric drivetrain technology.
