Mazda has unveiled its new EZ-60 SUV in China, potentially offering UK buyers an all-electric alternative to the CX-60 SUV.
The Japanese automaker hasn’t released complete technical specifications for the EZ-60 yet. The vehicle was developed with Chinese manufacturer Changan and shares underpinnings with Changan’s Deepal S07 SUV. The S07 features an 80kWh battery and a 214bhp rear-axle motor that delivers a 295-mile range.
The EZ-60 is expected to compete with the Tesla Model Y and BMW iX3 in the electric SUV segment.
This isn’t Mazda’s only collaboration with Changan. The upcoming all-electric 6e saloon uses the same platform as the Deepal SL03. Both vehicles are part of Mazda’s electrification strategy and feature a refreshed version of the company’s ‘Kodo’ design language that first appeared in 2010.
Like the 6e, the EZ-60 includes an LED lightbar connecting the daytime running lights below the front panel. The EZ-60 distinguishes itself with a more prominent chin spoiler featuring apparent faux air dams housing the front indicators. Its rear C pillar resembles the current Mazda 3 hatchback’s design but in an elongated form.
Mazda hasn’t revealed the EZ-60’s interior yet. The full unveiling is scheduled for Auto Shanghai, beginning May 2.
While the 6e is confirmed to arrive in the UK later in 2025, Mazda hasn’t announced whether the EZ-60 will reach British shores. If it does, it would significantly strengthen the company’s EV lineup following the discontinuation of the MX-30 crossover in April this year.
Mazda recently announced a shift to an aggressive electrification strategy after years of resistance. The company aims to have electric-only vehicles make up between 25% and 40% of its lineup by 2030. Unlike the Chinese-built EZ-60 and 6e, these future EVs will be manufactured in Japan using locally-produced Panasonic batteries.
