Toyota has unveiled its sixth-generation RAV4, featuring more power, improved range and faster charging for the plug-in hybrid SUV.

The new RAV4 delivers 300bhp and accelerates from 0-62mph in 5.8 seconds. This performance comes from a 150kW (200bhp) front-mounted motor working alongside a 2.5-litre petrol engine. A larger 22.68kWh battery now provides up to 62 miles of electric range.

Charging speeds have significantly improved. The all-wheel-drive model can charge from 10-80% in around 30 minutes using the new onboard 50kW DC charger.

With Toyota’s newly-introduced 11kW AC charger, the SUV reaches 10-80% charge within three hours – twice as fast as the previous model.

Toyota has expanded the lineup to include a front-wheel drive PHEV RAV4 for the first time, though with a reduced power output of 264bhp. Non-PHEV hybrid versions remain available with 188bhp in AWD configuration and 181bhp in FWD.

The interior has undergone substantial changes. A 12.9-inch infotainment screen now sits at the center of the dashboard, controlling navigation, climate settings, and system functions. Toyota promises regular over-the-air updates for this system.

A new 12.3-inch driver display shows Google Points of Interest with real-time navigation details, including Low Emissions Zones location alerts. Both screens offer improved graphics and information quality compared to the outgoing model.

Enhanced Safety Technology

The new RAV4 incorporates Toyota’s Arene OS, designed to improve safety as part of the company’s zero road accidents initiative. This works with an updated Blind Spot Monitor and new Front Cross Traffic Alert feature that prevents the vehicle from crossing busy junctions by detecting passing traffic.

Safety enhancements extend to more advanced versions of Lane Change Assist and Pre-Collision System. A new Panoramic View Monitor provides a 3D image to make parking easier.

Like the infotainment system, all safety features receive over-the-air updates.

GR Sport Model

Toyota has confirmed a GR Sport trim inspired by Toyota Gazoo Racing’s championship-winning motorsport programs in endurance racing and rallying.

While maintaining the same drivetrain as standard models, the RAV4 GR Sport features visual upgrades including a 3D-effect “functional matrix” mesh grille and lightweight 20-inch wheels. Interior changes include console knee pads, aluminum pedals, and black upholstery with GR logos and red accents.

The GR Sport’s chassis is 20mm wider than standard models. High-performance dampers, strengthened rear bracing, and retuned springs and power steering aim to deliver a more engaging driving experience.

Toyota has confirmed that only the PHEV version will be available in the UK. Pricing and arrival dates have not yet been announced.
