Volvo has announced the all-new EX60 SUV, promising up to 503 miles of range in all-wheel drive configuration with a starting price under £60,000.

The mid-sized electric SUV slots between Volvo’s smaller EX30 and EX40 crossovers and the full-sized seven-seat EX90 in the brand’s lineup.

Design and Features

The EX60 shares Volvo’s signature Thor’s Hammer LED headlights and streamlined front end design. A pronounced beltline runs along the car’s profile, while two-step rear lights are built into the rear D-pillar.

Electronic door latches replace traditional handles to boost aerodynamics and extend driving range.

Inside, the EX60 marks a departure from the EX90’s layout. An Android Automotive infotainment system sits horizontally in the dashboard center with a rocker switch below it.

The two-spoke steering wheel includes physical buttons for car functions and infotainment control. A horizontal driver display replaces the traditional instrument cluster.

The cabin features light, airy colors with vegan leather or cloth trim options that align with Volvo’s environmental goals.

Powertrain Options

Three configurations are available. The dual-motor AWD P12 delivers 670bhp with a 117kWh battery for 503-mile range, priced around £65,000.

The P10 variant offers 503bhp and 410-mile range from a 95kWh battery, starting at £60,000.

A rear-wheel-drive P6 model provides 385bhp and 385-mile range with an 85kWh battery, expected between £55,000-£58,000.

The AWD EX60’s 503-mile range surpasses competitors like the BMW iX3 and Mercedes GLC in the D-segment SUV category.

Technology Platform

The EX60 rides on Volvo’s new SPA3 platform – Scalable Product Architecture 3 – rather than the SPA2 system used in the EX90.

SPA3’s 800V architecture enables 211-mile range top-ups in 10 minutes using ultra-fast 400kW chargers.

The platform uses cell-to-body technology, integrating the battery into the chassis structure to reduce weight and improve efficiency.

Manufacturing Innovation

Production will take place at Volvo’s Torslanda factory in Sweden, which has built Volvo cars since 1964.

The EX60 becomes the first Volvo manufactured with megacasting technology. The entire rear underbody is cast from a single aluminum piece instead of 100 separate parts, reducing manufacturing time and overall weight.

Boot space measures 522 liters with rear seats up and 988 liters when folded. A 58-liter frunk provides storage for charging cables.

Advanced Computing

The five-seat EX60 runs on NVIDIA and Qualcomm computing power. The Snapdragon Cockpit Platform with Drive AGX Orin performs over 250 trillion calculations per second.

The EX60 is the world’s first Volvo with Google Gemini integration, enabling conversational voice commands between driver and car.

Safety features include an adaptive seatbelt system – another Volvo first. Real-time sensors adjust belt tension based on occupant characteristics, traffic conditions, and accident severity rather than using conventional tension systems.

At today’s launch event in Stockholm, Volvo confirmed a Cross Country version of the EX60 will join the lineup later this year, featuring a more rugged visual design.
