Volkswagen officially announced its heavily updated ID 3 will carry the ID 3 Neo nameplate when it debuts in mid-April.

The ID 3 Neo represents a significant revision of the existing ID 3, featuring updates inside and out. The vehicle runs on Volkswagen’s latest software stack.

New features include traffic light detection and one-pedal driving capabilities.

Vehicle-to-Load Technology Standard

Like other new VW ID models, the ID 3 Neo comes with vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality. This feature can power external devices up to 3.6kW through an interior 230V socket. A separate adapter allows V2L access through the main charging port.

The ID 3 Neo will lead Volkswagen’s renewed and expanded ID lineup. Other models joining the range include the ID Polo, ID Polo GTI, and ID Cross – all arriving by the end of 2026.

Enhanced Infotainment and Digital Features

All latest-generation ID models feature Volkswagen’s new Innovision infotainment platform. The system now includes an app store where owners can purchase functions and services.

Available services cover audio, video streaming, parking, charging, and gaming. Purchases can be made directly from the vehicle or through a smartphone.

A digital vehicle key comes standard across the ID range, supplementing the traditional key. The feature allows car control through smart devices.

All software and hardware meet new or future regulations in Europe and the United States.

Kai Grünitz, VW’s board member for technical development, said the ID 3 Neo will build on Volkswagen’s electric revival.

Following early challenges with its EV program, the German automaker has reversed course. The ID 3, ID 4, and ID 7 now rank among Europe’s most popular electric vehicles.

“The new software generation brings more performance and an even better customer experience to the ID. models,” said Grünitz. “The new Volkswagen electric models in the small and compact vehicle segments – ID Polo, ID Polo GTI, [and] ID Cross – will also soon be launched on the market with these new innovations, offering more flexibility in everyday life and for leisure activities.”

Volkswagen hasn’t announced pricing or battery specifications for the ID 3 Neo. It’s unclear whether the facelift will bring hardware updates or retain existing powertrain offerings.
