Nissan announced the all-new Leaf will start under £33,000 after receiving the full electric vehicle grant from the government.

The Sunderland-built Leaf becomes just the fourth model to qualify for the complete £3,750 discount. This brings the Engage trim’s starting price to £32,249.

Sales open in December, with first deliveries reaching customers in February 2026.

Four Trim Levels, One Battery Option

The new Leaf competes directly with the Volkswagen ID.3 and Renault Scenic. It’ll arrive in four specifications, all using the same powertrain initially.

Every model uses a 215bhp motor paired with a 75kWh battery that delivers up to 386 miles of range.

An entry-level variant with a 174bhp motor and 52kWh battery will follow later in 2026. That version offers up to 271 miles of range and could price below £30,000, though Nissan hasn’t confirmed final pricing.

For launch, buyers choose between Engage, Engage+, Advance, or Evolve specifications.

The base Engage trim at £32,249 includes 18-inch alloy wheels, twin 12.3-inch displays, a heat pump, and Propilot driver assistance.

Engage+ costs £33,149 and adds heated seats and steering wheel, wireless phone charging, and upgrades to 14.3-inch screens running Google Automotive.

Advance adds £1,100 for part-leather upholstery, panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, head-up display, and tinted rear glass with upgraded rear lights.

The top Evolve trim starts at £36,249. It includes a Bose nine-speaker sound system, electrically adjustable seats with full synthetic leather, driver seat massage, vehicle-to-load capability, and keyless entry.

UK Manufacturing Advantage

James Taylor, Nissan GB managing director, emphasized the pricing achievement.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be able to confirm LEAF’s pricing at £32,249 including the electric car grant, which will deliver an accessible route to EV ownership for our customers,” Taylor said.

He highlighted the combination of 386-mile range, advanced technology, and Nissan’s 15 years of EV experience. The UK production location adds particular value.

The Leaf’s UK manufacturing likely helped secure the full Band 1 Electric Car Grant. Eligibility depends heavily on production sustainability metrics.

Only three other models currently qualify: the Ford Puma Gen-E, E-Tourneo Courier, and Citroen E-C5 Aircross.

Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander praised the announcement’s broader impact.

“Nissan helped pioneer early EV ownership through the original Leaf, so it’s great to see them join our drive to make going electric cheaper and more accessible for families,” Alexander said.

The news supports thousands of manufacturing jobs in the North East while advancing the UK’s electric vehicle transition goals.
