Nissan announced that its redesigned Micra now qualifies for the maximum £3,750 Electric Car Grant thanks to a new long-range battery sourcing change.
The Micra 52kWh delivers up to 257 miles of range on a single charge. It’s priced from £23,245 for the Advance trim and £26,115 for the Evolve variant – both prices include the £3,750 grant reduction.
The smaller 40kWh battery version still gets the £1,500 grant with its 196-mile range. That brings the entry-level Engage model down to £21,495 and the Advance to £23,495.
Grant Qualification Changes
The longer-range Micra now falls under ‘band one’ ECG eligibility because Nissan switched to a Europe-sourced battery. The UK Government classifies vehicles into band one or band two based on verified carbon emissions from both vehicle and battery production.
Lower production emissions mean better grant eligibility – and the ECG only applies to cars under £37,000.
“Our new battery supplier means our longer-range Micra 52kWh now qualifies for the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant, ensuring great value for money for our customers,” said James Taylor, Nissan GB managing director.
Taylor emphasized Nissan’s EV strategy momentum.
“It also means that both of our new model launches so far this year – Micra and Leaf – are available with the maximum EV grant discount, demonstrating Nissan’s continued leadership in providing accessible and exciting electric cars for people keen to switch to zero emission motoring.”
Production and Strategy Context
The sixth-generation Micra comes from Nissan’s ElectiCity plant in northern France – the same facility that builds the Renault 5. That’s different from the Leaf, which rolls off the production line at Nissan’s Sunderland factory in North East England.
Both the Micra and Leaf represent the first models from Nissan’s updated electrification push.
The company’s also working on a replacement for the EV-only Ariya, expected in the coming months.
