Nissan Micra EV Revealed as Sunderland Prepares for Leaf & Juke image

Nissan has revealed the first images of its all-new electric Micra, set to launch later this year.

The electric supermini will hit the market ahead of the next-generation Leaf and upcoming Juke EV as part of Nissan’s expanding electric vehicle lineup.

Built on the AmpR platform shared with the new Renault 5, the Micra EV will be manufactured at Renault’s Douai factory alongside its French counterpart. Buyers will have options of 40kWh or 52kWh batteries, offering up to 248 miles of range. The car will likely feature the same 118bhp or 148bhp motor choices as the Renault.

Nissan’s European design team in London created the new Micra with a softer overall shape than its platform-mate. The design includes distinctive round headlights – a nod to the third-generation Micra.

While exact pricing remains unannounced, the Micra EV is expected to compete directly with the £23,000 Renault 5 and £22,000 Citroen E-C3.

Production of the third-generation Nissan Leaf will begin in Sunderland toward the end of 2025.

The redesigned Leaf abandons its traditional hatchback styling for a crossover shape. It shares the CMF-EV platform with the larger Ariya and features what Nissan calls a “three-in-one EV powertrain” delivering “significant range improvements.”

The current Leaf offers 239 miles from its 62kWh battery with a 214bhp motor.

Though technical specifications haven’t been released, the new model could potentially share components with the Ariya, which delivers up to 330 miles from its 87kWh battery. This could push the lighter Leaf beyond 350 miles of range.

Images show the new Leaf adopting the Ariya’s sleek design language – featuring a grille-less front end, full-width light bar and illuminated Nissan badge. Aerodynamic elements include a coupe-inspired roofline and flush door handles.

Following the Micra and Leaf launches in 2025, Nissan will introduce an electric Juke in 2026.

Based on the Hyper Punk concept car, a teaser image suggests the Juke EV will combine toned-down elements from that radical design with styling cues from previous Juke generations.

The electric Juke is expected to share its platform with the Leaf and Ariya, though technical details remain under wraps.
