Nissan launched a updated charging app powered by Octopus Energy’s Electroverse platform as part of its Ambition 2030 strategy targeting 50% electrification by the decade’s end.
The partnership gives Nissan EV drivers access to over one million charge points across Europe operated by 1,200 different charging companies. Major operators like Ionity, TotalEnergies, Allego, and Aral are included in the network.
Around 500 new chargers join the Nissan Charge app daily.
The app provides real-time information to help drivers optimize charging costs for both daily commutes and long-distance trips. Like ZapMap, drivers can check real-time charger availability, charging speeds, and plug types while accessing reduced rates through participating operators.
Future Features Coming
Nissan plans to add Plug & Charge functionality similar to Tesla’s system. This lets the vehicle communicate directly with compatible charging stations without needing separate apps or charging cards.
Vehicle-to-Grid technology will also arrive in future updates.
V2G allows EV owners to cut home charging costs significantly by using their car batteries to support grid stability and feed energy back when needed. The EV battery essentially becomes a mobile energy storage unit that can power household items or provide backup power during outages.
“The new Nissan Charge app is an important step in our mission to make electric driving seamless and accessible,” said Nissan Energy director Soufiane El Khomri. “By introducing future-ready features, we’re not only helping drivers connect to Europe’s vast charging network, but we’re also laying the foundation for EVs to play an active role in the energy system of tomorrow.”
The timing aligns with Nissan‘s upcoming electric vehicle launches including the new Micra, updated Leaf, and an unnamed city car model.
Matt Davies, Octopus Electroverse director, noted this marks the first time Electroverse technology has been integrated into another brand’s charging app.
“As EVs become mainstream, drivers want a charging experience as smart as their vehicle,” Davies said. “By bringing our cutting-edge technology into the Nissan Charge app, we’re delivering the best of Electroverse – simple access to 80% of all chargers across Europe, money-saving discounts, and quick, hassle-free payments.”
The enhanced app supports Nissan’s EV36Zero initiative while preparing drivers for the company’s next-generation electric models.
