Octopus Energy has launched a new £30 monthly subscription called the ‘Intelligent Drive Pack’ that offers unlimited overnight smart EV charging for customers on standard electricity tariffs.
The subscription service covers one electric car and lets users select when they want their vehicle fully charged – anytime between 4am and 11am – taking advantage of greener grid energy and lower prices.
This new option complements Octopus’s existing Go tariff, which provides EV charging at just 8.5p per kilowatt hour during off-peak hours (00:30-05:30) – making it one of the UK’s most competitive home charging rates.
To use the Intelligent Drive Pack, customers need:
- A working smart meter
- Octopus Fixed or Flexible Octopus home tariff
- A compatible home charger
- One of 280 compatible electric vehicles
Charging outside the 04:00-11:00 window remains possible through a boost function in the Octopus app, though this incurs standard home energy rates beyond the monthly subscription.
The company reports that Intelligent Drive Pack subscribers typically spend 41% of what petrol car owners pay for fuel each month.
“You can’t even get a nice meal out at a restaurant for £30 anymore – but you can get a whole month’s worth of driving!” said Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, chief product officer at Octopus.
The new offering targets customers wanting to switch from combustion engines to EVs without changing their home energy tariff. It provides a straightforward path to electric vehicle ownership while simplifying the charging process.
