Ohme partnered with PayPal to offer installment payments for home EV chargers, allowing drivers to split costs over two months through PayPal Pay in 3.
The arrangement covers Ohme’s ePod and Home Pro charging units. EV owners can now spread payments instead of paying the full amount upfront.
Ohme calls itself the UK’s largest home charging company. The partnership targets drivers who might struggle with initial setup costs when switching to electric vehicles.
“It’s great to be able to offer buyers an additional route to buying an Ohme charger, by spreading the cost with PayPal,” said Ohme CEO David Watson.
Watson pointed to current fuel prices as motivation for the switch. “With petrol prices being so high, there’s never been a better time to drive an EV and PayPal’s Pay in 3 option will help more drivers to get faster access to cheaper and cleaner home charging.”
The deal includes additional benefits beyond payment flexibility.
Drivers who sign up for PayPal+ when ordering their Ohme charger can earn redeemable points. The program adds value to the purchase beyond just spreading costs.
PayPal UK sees the partnership as addressing a specific barrier to EV adoption. Tamer El-Emary, general manager for PayPal UK, described upfront home charging costs as a “sticking point” for many drivers.
“By partnering with Ohme, we’re helping to remove a friction point between buying an EV and actually benefiting from the budget-friendly running costs that come with home charging,” El-Emary said.
The payment option targets drivers who want EVs but hesitate at initial setup expenses.
Home charging typically offers the lowest cost per mile for EV owners compared to public charging networks. The upfront charger cost – often several hundred pounds including installation – can delay that transition.
PayPal’s involvement reflects broader industry efforts to reduce EV adoption barriers through financing options.
