Omoda has revealed its new Omoda 4 compact SUV, setting up direct competition with established models like the Kia EV3, Renault 4, and Volvo EX30.
The reveal took place at the Chery User Summit in Wuhu, China. The event featured sci-fi characters, cocktail mixologists, and a body-art booth in an industrial setting.
UK sales will begin sometime in 2026, though the company hasn’t announced a specific date.
The vehicle will offer both internal combustion engine and electric powertrain options. This dual approach gives buyers choice between traditional fuel and battery power.
Platform and Performance Details
Technical specifications remain under wraps, but industry sources suggest the compact SUV will use the T1X platform. This same foundation supports the larger Omoda 5.
The electric version of the Omoda 5 delivers 267 miles of range from its 61kWh battery pack. A front-mounted electric motor provides the power.
Similar specs are expected for the Omoda 4’s electric variant.
Design Philosophy
The Omoda 4 introduces what brand design director Richard Koo calls “Cyber Mecha” styling. This design language emphasizes sharp geometric shapes, metallic finishes, and robotics-inspired details.
A mecha refers to large walking robots piloted by humans – common in Japanese anime and manga.
The vehicle’s blocky exterior shares DNA with models like the Lotus Eletre and Lamborghini Urus. Angular lines and bold proportions define the overall look.
Inside, the company promises a “sci-fi and e-sports-themed interior.” A 2.5K Snapdragon infotainment screen dominates the dashboard center. The driver gets a slim digital display.
The engine start button sits beneath a red pilot-style cage – borrowing cues from Lamborghini’s design playbook.
Diamond-shaped control buttons flank the center console, which features what appears to be faux carbon fiber trim.
Market Positioning
Pricing details haven’t been confirmed for the UK market. Industry estimates suggest a starting price around £25,000.
This would position it roughly £8,000 below the Omoda 5’s current pricing. The lower price point targets buyers seeking premium features without flagship costs.
The 2026 launch timeline puts the Omoda 4 into an increasingly competitive compact EV segment. Established European and Korean brands already occupy much of this space.
Success will depend on whether the distinctive styling and competitive pricing can attract buyers in a crowded market.
