Omoda has rolled out significant updates to its all-electric E5 SUV for the 2025 model year, with the company announcing improvements to battery capacity, charging speeds, and driving dynamics.
The most notable change comes with a new 61kWh battery pack that boosts the E5’s range from 257 miles to 267 miles on a single charge. The upgraded battery features improved energy density – meaning more power stored in the same space.
Faster Charging and Cold Weather Performance
DC fast charging gets a major upgrade too. The 2025 E5 can now charge at 130kW, compared to just 80kW in the previous model.
That’s a 63% improvement in charging speed, cutting down time spent at charging stations.
Omoda’s also added a heat pump as standard equipment. Heat pumps help electric cars maintain their range when temperatures drop by using waste heat from the motor and electronics to warm the cabin instead of draining the main battery.
The E5 competes directly with popular electric SUVs like the Volvo EX30, Kia EV3, and Hyundai Kona Electric.
Driving and Safety Improvements
Beyond the electric powertrain upgrades, Omoda’s engineers focused on making the E5 more engaging to drive. The front suspension geometry has been revised and paired with a new electric steering system.
New wheel hubs and bearings should improve handling precision.
Updated brake linings build on the E5’s existing Euro NCAP five-star safety rating – the same upgrades apply to the petrol-powered Omoda 5 as well.
The 2025 Omoda E5 is available now with two trim levels. The entry-level Knight starts at £33,065, while the range-topping Noble costs £34,565.
Both versions come with a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty plus an eight-year battery warranty. RAC’s Home Start breakdown cover is included with purchase.
Standard Equipment and Technology
The E5 comes well-equipped from the factory. Standard features include:
- Twin 12.5-inch displays for driver information and infotainment
- Wireless phone charging pad
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Air purification system
- 360-degree surround view camera
- Electrically-adjustable front seats
Omoda is owned by Chinese automotive giant Chery, which launched the brand in the UK in 2024. The company’s pursuing an aggressive expansion plan and expects to have more than 80 retailers operating across the country by year’s end.
Chery’s also preparing to launch the Tiggo 8 plug-in hybrid SUV under its own brand name this September.
