Omoda & Jaecoo brings new Super Hybrid System to UK with 403mpg SUV
The Jaecoo 7 SUV will be the first vehicle to showcase Omoda & Jaecoo’s new plug-in Super Hybrid System (SHS) in the UK market. Parent company Chery Group says the system delivers 403mpg and a 745-mile range under WLTP testing conditions.
The powertrain combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 143bhp with an electric motor, creating a total system output of 201bhp and 229lb ft of torque. The Jaecoo 7 SHS accelerates from 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds.
At the heart of the system is an 18.3kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, enabling 56 miles of electric-only driving. The SHS maintains minimum battery charge levels — a feature that sets it apart from traditional plug-in hybrids.
The battery supports 40kW DC charging, completing a 30-80% charge in about 40 minutes.
Technical innovations include:
- Fifth-generation Miller cycle petrol engine
- Intelligent thermal management system
- Advanced turbocharging
- Quad-core dual electronic control transmission
- High-efficiency dual motors
“The rapid growth of new energy vehicles is set to continue, and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) are a key part of this expansion around the world,” said Peter Matkin, chief engineer at Jaecoo and head of engineering for Chery Group.
Matkin added: “The SHS enables an improved driving experience and better fuel economy, which is helped by a unique engineering solution. Jaecoo engineers have worked tirelessly to fine-tune Chery’s CDM hybrid technology to offer a truly viable alternative to a pure electric vehicle.”
The Jaecoo 7 SHS is available to order now, with prices starting from £35,065. First deliveries will begin at the end of January.
