OVO Energy has launched the UK’s first combined home and public charging subscription service for electric vehicles. The OVO Charge Anytime plans start at £27.50 monthly and promise savings up to £460 annually.

The energy giant says its subscription model costs less than half a tank of petrol while covering both home and public charging needs.

Customers receive fixed monthly allowances for home charging plus voucher credits for public charging networks. OVO designed the packages around typical EV driver behavior – covering annual mileage between 8,400 and 12,000 miles for drivers with home chargers.

Two Subscription Tiers Available

The standard Charge Anytime package costs £27.50 monthly. It includes home charging equivalent to 700 miles per month, calculated at 4 miles per kWh efficiency.

The plan also provides £120 worth of annual public charging vouchers. OVO says this covers average UK driver spending on public charging networks.

Those vouchers work at more than 400,000 charging points across the UK and Europe.

Premium subscribers pay £37.50 monthly for expanded coverage. The upgrade maintains the same £120 public charging allowance but increases home charging to 1,000 miles monthly equivalent.

Both subscriptions include home charger insurance coverage.

Premium members get additional perks – a free annual battery health check from ClearWatt and 15% tire discounts at Kwik Fit locations.

Pay-As-You-Go Option

Lower-mileage drivers can choose OVO’s flexible payment plan instead. This option charges 14p per kWh for home EV charging – below standard domestic rates.

The pay-as-you-go service allows smart charging at any time, day or night.

OVO’s calculations compare its packages against drivers paying standard variable energy rates at home plus 80p per kWh for public charging. The company estimates annual savings between £400 and £460 versus that baseline.

The subscriptions cost roughly one-third of annual petrol expenses for comparable driving, according to OVO.

Recent company research found half of drivers plan to go electric with their next vehicle purchase. However, 79% want simpler charging solutions across home and public networks.

“We need to make EVs the easy choice for drivers. This means making them super affordable to run and simple to charge. Charge Anytime monthly plans offer the best of both worlds – the flexibility to charge anytime, from anywhere, with the confidence of knowing exactly what you’ll pay each month.”

Alex Thwaites, OVO’s director of EV operations, emphasized the company’s focus on affordability and convenience.

The subscription launch comes as UK EV adoption accelerates but charging complexity remains a barrier for many potential buyers. OVO’s model attempts to simplify the transition by bundling home and public charging into predictable monthly costs.
