Tesco has expanded its partnership with charging provider Pod to let customers earn Clubcard points when charging their electric vehicles at stores across the UK.

The supermarket chain announced that Clubcard members can now collect one point for every pound spent charging at Pod’s network of more than 2,600 public chargers at over 600 Tesco locations.

While the Pod charging units carry Vauxhall branding, they’re available to drivers of any electric car. Charging speeds and costs vary depending on location – 7kW chargers cost 44p per kWh while rapid 75kW units charge 69p per kWh.

Shama Wilson, Tesco’s group membership and loyalty director, said the move reflects changing customer needs.

“Our customers have long been able to collect points on fuel from Tesco, but with an increasing number of drivers switching to electric vehicles we are delighted that shoppers will now be able to collect Clubcard points when they charge their cars at our stores, thanks to our exciting partnership with Pod.”

Home Charging Rewards

The partnership also extends to home charging solutions. EV drivers who purchase a Pod Solo 3S wallbox through the company’s Pod Drive subscription service earn 2,500 Clubcard points – worth £25 in Tesco vouchers or £50 with Clubcard Reward partners.

Pod Drive represents the company’s first major offering since rebranding from Pod Point. The service tackles the high upfront costs of home charging installation by bundling equipment and setup into a £40 monthly subscription.

The subscription includes cashback on up to 7,500 miles of smart charging annually, regardless of which EV model customers drive or their energy supplier.

Melanie Lane, Pod’s CEO, emphasized how the partnership fits into everyday routines.

“We’re thrilled to deepen our longstanding partnership with Tesco and provide an incentive for Clubcard members to make the switch to an EV. We know that the more that EVs blend with peoples’ everyday routines, the more it makes sense to go electric, and with our unique partnership we’re able to align drivers’ charging experiences across both home and public charging points.”

The expanded rewards program comes as Tesco continues building out its charging infrastructure. The retailer’s partnership with Pod has made it one of the UK’s largest hosts of public charging stations.

Customers can start earning points immediately by linking their Clubcard account to Pod’s charging app before plugging in.
