Pod has introduced a £40 monthly subscription for its Pod Drive service, reducing the upfront cost of its Solo 3S charger from £1,249 to just £99. The service includes a 48-hour Service Level Agreement for repairs.

The company – formerly known as Pod Point – is offering subscribers cashback for up to 7,500 miles annually, worth approximately £170.

The service works by having customers “smart charge” their vehicles to reach desired battery levels by specific times. For example, setting the car to reach 100% charge by 7:00 AM.

Subscribers pay their £40 monthly fee plus energy costs at month’s end. They then receive cashback at 2.3p per mile for smart-charged driving, up to the 7,500-mile annual limit.

The average home EV charger installation currently costs around £1,000, according to Checkatrade.

Melanie Lane, Pod’s CEO, explained the strategy behind the new pricing model.

“Pod Drive takes the hassle and complexity out of going electric and removes significant barriers in the form of upfront costs. As the original innovator in electric charging, we are constantly working hard to make life with an EV easy for drivers.”

She emphasized the company’s experience in the EV sector positions them well to help households transition to clean energy while supporting the UK’s electricity grid.

“Pod Drive is only the first of a number of everyday electrification propositions we are developing as we expand from providing chargers to helping busy households with all their charging needs.”

Lane noted the company’s established customer base: “With over 250,000 customers already trusting us to be at the heart of their EV life, we see Pod playing a leading role in the UK’s increasingly electrified future.”

The rebranding from Pod Point to Pod reflects the company’s strategic shift from focusing on charger hardware to providing comprehensive charging services.
