Energy provider EDF and charge point operator Pod announced the launch of Pod Power – a new home charging tariff they’re positioning as the UK’s cheapest EV electricity rate.
The partnership creates an exclusive offering for customers with Pod home chargers, delivering seven hours of off-peak electricity between 11pm and 6am at 6.49p per kWh.
Extended Off-Peak Window
Pod Power extends beyond typical EV charging schedules. The tariff applies to entire households, giving customers a longer off-peak window for running appliances alongside vehicle charging.
EDF expanded its off-peak periods beyond the standard five-hour window in response to energy market instability following the Iran conflict. The extended timeframe aims to provide more predictable charging costs for customers.
The company estimates Pod Power users could save over £450 annually compared to EDF’s Standard Variable Tariff. These standard tariffs are regulated by Ofgem’s price cap mechanism.
Rewards Integration
Pod Power works with the existing Pod Rewards program. Customers can earn up to £100 per year for charging during lowest-demand periods – typically overnight hours.
Melanie Lane, Pod’s CEO, emphasized the tariff’s clarity for new EV drivers.
“Pod Power by EDF is designed to give drivers total confidence when they go electric, offering them a complete end-to-end charging solution,” Lane said. “Our customers tell us they want clarity and simplicity in their energy choices, and this unique tariff delivers both.”
She highlighted the seven-hour low-cost window as making home charging more accessible and affordable.
Philippe Commaret, EDF’s customer managing director, positioned the partnership as combining competitive pricing with environmental benefits.
“We are delighted to partner with Pod on this exclusive EV tariff,” Commaret said. “Pod Power by EDF combines competitive overnight pricing with EDF’s zero-carbon electricity, giving customers a simple, great-value way to power both their home and their car.”
The tariff launches as energy providers increasingly target EV owners with specialized electricity rates. Competition in the home charging market has intensified as electric vehicle adoption accelerates across the UK.
