Polestar’s US operation launched a ‘Tesla Conquest’ discount in late February, offering Tesla owners $5,000 off a new Polestar 3 SUV if they switched brands.

The week-long promotion, which ran February 21-28, came on top of an existing $15,000 discount already available on the $73,400 starting price of the South Carolina-built electric SUV.

While Polestar hasn’t released specific figures on how many Tesla owners took advantage of the offer, Jordan Hofmann, Polestar’s head of sales, indicated strong results in a social media post.

“This week saw some of the highest order days for Polestar 3, and the response to our Tesla Conquest Offer has been incredible. Manufacturered in the USA, Polestar 3 is turning heads and driving are making moves – it’s clear they like what we bring to the table. The excitement is real, the momentum is growing, and as I always say – we’re just getting started! We’ve got plenty more in store, and trust me, you’re going to watch what happens next.”

The promotion specifically targeted Tesla owners who might be dissatisfied with CEO Elon Musk’s political positions and recent cost-cutting measures.

The Polestar 3 competes directly with Tesla’s Model X and Model Y crossovers.

The electric SUV has received recognition in the industry, winning the 2024 Good Design Award for exterior design and topping Norway’s largest independent winter range test.

Polestar offers the vehicle in three configurations. The base single-motor version delivers 279 miles of range from its 111kWh battery. The mid-tier dual-motor Performance model provides 315 miles, while the top-tier long-range dual-motor trim extends that to 350 miles.

The Polestar 3 represents the brand’s second model following the Polestar 2.

Tesla faces challenges beyond the US market. The company is currently engaged in a legal dispute with the European Union over tariffs imposed on vehicles manufactured at its Shanghai Gigafactory.

In the UK, a survey found 59% of potential EV buyers have been deterred from Tesla specifically because of Musk’s political stances.

Despite these hurdles, Tesla released an updated Model Y earlier in 2025 and has announced plans to introduce “more affordable models” later this year. The company will also test a virtual queuing system at its Supercharger stations this spring, following a recent physical altercation between Tesla owners at one charging location.
