Google has partnered with Polestar to launch the first AI-powered live lane guidance system integrated directly into a vehicle’s instrument display, according to Polestar.
The Polestar 4 becomes the first car to feature this technology on its 10.2-inch driver display. Google’s AI uses the vehicle’s front-facing cameras to detect lane markings and road signs in real-time.
The system identifies which lane the car is currently in and provides both audio and visual alerts when drivers need to change lanes for upcoming turns or exits.
Sid Odedra, Polestar’s head of UI and UX, highlighted the safety benefits of the new feature.
“Live lane guidance continues the path of Polestar’s driver centric UX strategy, reducing driver stress and improving safety by making missed exits and last-minute lane changes much less of a worry.”
The collaboration between Google and Polestar spans five years. It’s delivered multiple new features for owners during that time.
Setting New Industry Standards
Andrew Foster, director of product management for Google Maps, called the integration “groundbreaking.”
“Polestar has been a close partner since 2020 when Polestar 2 launched as the first car with Google built-in. Now, Polestar 4 will be the first to integrate our groundbreaking live lane guidance which will help people drive with even more confidence and set a new benchmark for navigation across the auto industry.”
The live lane guidance works alongside Google Maps to create a more comprehensive navigation experience. It’s designed to reduce the stress of highway driving and complex interchanges.
Polestar hasn’t announced plans to bring the AI-driven system to its other models – the Polestar 2, Polestar 3, or upcoming Polestar 5.
Polestar’s Growing Market Presence
The Swedish performance brand has seen significant growth recently. In September 2025, it became the UK’s fastest-growing premium EV brand after delivering 2,758 vehicles nationwide.
That success extends globally.
During the first nine months of this year, Polestar sold 44,482 units worldwide – a 36% increase from 2024. The company launched the Polestar 5 earlier this year and has the Volvo EX60-based Polestar 7 scheduled for 2028.
The live lane guidance feature represents another step in Polestar’s strategy to differentiate itself through advanced technology integration rather than just performance specs.
