Polestar Energy expands its home charging service to 11 European markets following successful UK and Netherlands pilot programs.
The EV manufacturer’s smart charging system now serves customers in Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Spain.
Belgian and Swiss customers can access the same grid rewards program available in the UK and Netherlands, while all markets benefit from smart charging and solar power integration.
Polestar Energy integrates with Polestar Charge, giving users access to more than 875,000 public charging stations across Europe, including Tesla’s Supercharger network.
The free Polestar Energy app lets customers set charging schedules and levels, automatically selecting cost-efficient charging periods during low-demand times.
This smart scheduling can reduce home charging costs by up to 30%, with potential annual savings reaching €300 (£253) through grid rewards in eligible markets.
“A 30% saving on charging costs at home can make a big difference, and so we’re rolling this offer out at scale, with more markets to come later this year,” said Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller. “When we add vehicle-to-grid capabilities in Polestar’s line-up it will add even more value to our customers.”
The company plans to introduce bi-directional charging capabilities in 2025, starting with the Polestar 3 SUV. This technology will enable vehicles to store energy and feed it back to the power grid or home systems.
Polestar has partnered with Zaptec to develop compatible bi-directional home chargers. The company will offer these chargers as part of an installation package, with pricing details to be announced.
The system helps balance grid demand by incentivizing charging during off-peak hours, resulting in lower energy costs through direct grid rewards or reduced electricity bills.
