German off-road specialist Delta 4×4 has unveiled its vision for transforming Renault’s award-winning R5 into an adventure-ready machine. The company says it’s created the R5 Reimagined “to show what’s possible on a small scale.”
Delta is known for creating lifted versions of everything from the Mitsubishi L200 to the Tesla Model Y and Ferrari Purosangue.
The Transformation
Starting with a standard Renault 5, Delta’s concept features a 100mm suspension lift. This allows aggressive 18-inch Loder AT #1 off-road tires to fit beneath massively widened wheel arches.
The adventure package includes a full roof rack system with spare tires, traction boards and a shovel for getting unstuck. Four PIAA spotlights mounted up front deliver what Delta calls “straight out of the 80s rally era” lighting.
The company hasn’t revealed details about the eye-catching paintwork shown in renderings.
“Dreams drive us – and sometimes, they roll on chunky all-terrain tires,” Delta announced. “Our latest concept brings real adventure spirit into the electric age: a Renault R5, inspired by historic rally icons and reimagined as a compact off-road machine.”
The catch? Delta hasn’t mentioned any powertrain changes.
That means this rugged-looking machine might still rely on the standard R5’s 148bhp front-wheel-drive setup. It’s a setup that doesn’t quite match the off-road aesthetic.
From Concept to Reality
The R5 by Delta exists only as digital renderings right now. But the Bavarian firm says enough customer interest could make “this dream hit the dirt for real.”
The timing might be right for such a project.
Renault has already shown the AmpR Small platform can support all-wheel-drive systems. The company’s Renault 4 Savane concept adds a second motor and gives the compact SUV a rugged makeover.
Meanwhile, other R5 variants are multiplying. The Alpine A290 offers a hot hatch alternative while the Turbo 3E delivers 500bhp in a £135,000 rally-inspired package. Alpine just launched a rally-spec A290 with limited-slip differential and hydraulic handbrake.
Delta’s concept taps into the same nostalgia that’s made the reborn R5 such a hit with EV buyers. The original Renault 5 Turbo rally cars dominated rallying in the 1980s.
Whether enough customers want a lifted electric supermini remains to be seen. But if the Renault 4 Savane proves all-wheel-drive is possible on this platform, Delta’s R5 4×4 might have a future beyond renders.
