Renault unveiled its Renault 4 Roland-Garros special edition as the French automaker marks its fifth year as a premium partner of the Roland-Garros French Open tennis tournament.

A show car version of the Renault 4 Roland-Garros will debut May 18 – the tournament’s opening day. The production version arrives this autumn.

The R5 Roland-Garros has been a UK success story, accounting for 15% of all R5 sales there. This suggests the R4 version should reach UK markets shortly after its European launch.

Tennis-Inspired Design Details

The R4 Roland-Garros builds on the Renault 4 ‘Plein Sud’, which features an electric-powered canvas roof. While this open-top version of Renault’s crossover is available across mainland Europe, it’s not yet offered in the UK.

Like the R5 Roland-Garros, the R4 edition includes tennis-inspired details celebrating the 135-year-old Grand Slam event.

Glacier White paintwork contrasts with black side pillars and roof arches. The front wings get silver trim and the Roland-Garros logo.

The 18-inch diamond-cut ‘Parisienne’ pattern wheels feature a smoked varnish finish. Their wheel-locking nuts and front and rear bumper trims are finished in Terracotta Brown – a nod to the tournament’s clay courts.

Interior Features

Inside, the Renault 4 Roland-Garros gets several tennis-derived features. The fully-recycled, light grey and white upholstery “echoes performance attire,” according to Renault.

The front seats are embossed with the Roland-Garros logo. The dashboard features a French flag with backlit ‘Roland-Garros Paris’ script.

Like the R5 Roland-Garros, the R4 version’s steering column-mounted gear shifter is designed as a tennis racket. The wireless charging pad gets a clay-colored finish, while another Roland-Garros Paris logo is etched into the brushed aluminum door sills.

Powertrain Specifications

The standard Renault 4 Plein Sud comes only with a 52kWh battery, delivering up to 250 miles of range and generating 148bhp from its front-mounted electric motor.

This suggests the Roland-Garros special edition will adopt the same setup.
