Renault will bring its most powerful car ever to the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed as the Renault 5 Turbo 3E makes its UK dynamic debut at the famous hillclimb event.

The production version of what Renault calls its “mini-supercar” will tackle the 1.16-mile course multiple times during the four-day festival. It’s the centerpiece of the French manufacturer’s EV showcase this summer.

The Turbo 3E produces 547 horsepower and 3,540 pound-feet of torque from two in-wheel rear motors.

Despite that massive power output, engineers kept the weight at 1,450 kilograms – exactly the same as the standard 148-horsepower Renault 5. The carbon fiber superstructure makes that possible. The result? A 0-62 mph sprint time of just 3.5 seconds.

The design takes inspiration from the R5 Turbos that dominated rallying in the 1980s. Wild bodywork and rally car styling cues define the look. Buyers get extensive personalization options too.

Only 1,980 examples will be built – a nod to the year Renault launched the original 5 Turbo. Each one costs at least £140,000.

“Renault 5 Turbo 3E embodies the boldness and spirit of innovation that have always defined Renault,” said Fabrice Cambolive, Renault’s CEO.

“Bringing the production-ready Renault 5 Turbo 3E to the Goodwood Festival of Speed for its UK dynamic debut is the perfect way to celebrate this spirit of performance and excitement with enthusiasts.”

Renault’s Broader EV Lineup on Display

The Turbo 3E won’t be alone at Goodwood. Renault will also showcase its new Twingo city car and the Renault 4 Plein Sud.

The Twingo goes on sale in early 2027 and draws heavy inspiration from the pioneering 1990s original. Cute styling meets an innovative interior design. Renault positions it as a “game-changer” in the underserved small EV segment.

Priced under £20,000, the Twingo features an 80-horsepower motor paired with a 27.5kWh battery pack. Range reaches up to 163 miles on a single charge.

The Renault 4 Plein Sud revives another piece of the company’s history with its sliding canvas roof. The electrically powered 80x92cm sunroof brings a modern twist to the original rag-top Renault 4 design.

It’s available now starting at £27,445 after the Electric Car Grant. First deliveries begin this summer.

The Goodwood appearance represents Renault’s push to blend its heritage with cutting-edge electric technology. The festival’s mix of classic and contemporary vehicles provides the perfect backdrop for that message.
