Rimac has announced its Nevera R electric hypercar set a new world record at Germany’s Automotive Testing Papenburg facility, completing the 0-249mph acceleration run in 25.79 seconds.
The achievement makes the Nevera R the fastest accelerating production car ever built.
The 2,078bhp hypercar improved on the standard Nevera’s 2023 record by over four seconds – the original car completed the same run in 29.93 seconds at the same facility.
During testing, the Nevera R reached 60mph from standstill in just 1.66 seconds. That’s 0.08 seconds faster than the standard 1,888bhp Nevera’s 1.74-second time.
The hypercar also hit 100 kilometers per hour in 1.72 seconds, compared to 1.81 seconds for its predecessor.
24 Records in One Day
Over the course of testing at ATP, the Nevera R established 24 separate world records.
The €2.4 million hypercar – roughly £2 million – features extensive re-engineering compared to the standard Nevera. Rimac improved the aerodynamics by 10% while generating 15% more downforce, totaling 400kg of downward force.
New Michelin Cup 2 tires reduce understeer by 10% and increase lateral grip by 5%. The rubber works with an advanced all-wheel torque vectoring system that distributes power to each wheel individually.
The quad-motor layout adjusts power delivery 100 times per second to maximize traction and performance in real-time.
Maté Rimac, company founder and CEO, said the achievement pushed hypercar performance to new levels.
“When we first introduced the Nevera it almost seemed like the pinnacle of hypercar performance had been reached. In a single generation, we had created a performance jump that previously would have taken decades. But now, through relentless innovation, Nevera R goes even faster, while still maintaining much of the comfort and practicality that makes the Nevera a real, usable daily car.”
He added that breaking records remains central to the company’s mission.
Limited Production Run
The Croatian manufacturer plans to build just 40 units of the Nevera R.
Rimac brought one example to the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it’s expected to challenge for the hillclimb record. The standard Nevera set the production car record there in 2023 with a 49.32-second time before being beaten last year.
The Nevera R recently received recognition beyond performance metrics – it won a Red Dot Award for Product Design earlier this week.
The hypercar’s top speed reaches 256mph, though Rimac hasn’t announced plans to attempt any top speed records with the new model.
