Skoda has brought back the famous Favorit name for an all-electric concept car as part of the Czech carmaker’s 130th anniversary celebrations.

This electrified Skoda Favorit was designed by Skoda designer Ljudmil Slavov. The Bulgarian designer worked to keep the sharp, angular look of the Bertone-designed original from the 1980s and ’90s while updating it with Skoda’s Modern Solid design language introduced with the Elroq earlier this year.

Slavov chose not to use Skoda’s new gloss black Tech-Deck face that came with the Modern Solid design approach.

Instead, his Favorit concept features ultra-slim LED strips at the front and rear. These sit behind semi-transparent covers – a design choice that reflects the large headlights of the original car.

“I didn’t want to rely on current design elements like the Tech-Deck. This is a tribute to the Favorit, so I carefully studied the original details, aiming to evolve and elevate them. Simplifying an already minimalistic shape into the Modern Solid style was genuinely challenging.”

The Original Favorit’s Legacy

The first Skoda Favorit ran from 1987 to 1994 and marked a turning point for the Mladà Boleslav-based manufacturer. Its Bertone design, practical layout, and ‘Western’-style engineering proved successful for Skoda.

The Favorit’s transversely-mounted engine and front-wheel-drive setup won international praise. This model played a key role in bringing Skoda under Volkswagen ownership.

This isn’t actually the first electric Favorit. During the 1990s, Skoda built an all-electric version of the original called the Eltra 151.

The short-lived EV version became popular with the Czech postal service and, surprisingly, with buyers in California.

Part of Anniversary Celebrations

Skoda started as a bike and motorcycle company called Laurin and Klement in 1895. The company is celebrating 130 years of operations in 2025 by reimagining landmark models from its history for modern times.

Along with the Favorit concept, Skoda has also created the all-electric Voltavia and several other concept vehicles. The company even revived its Slavia B motorcycle as an EV using the Modern Solid design approach.

Skoda maintains that these reimagined vehicles are design showcases only and won’t enter production.
