Skoda France has unveiled two electric conversions of its classic Octavia models, showcasing how historic vehicles can be reimagined for modern times.

The project emerged from Skoda France’s Retrofit Challenge competition, which required participants to convert classic Octavias to electric power with a minimum range of 180 kilometers per charge.

W-Autosport and the Strate School of Design partnered with TV show Turbo to create “Project X,” based on the 1959-1971 Octavia. The performance-focused conversion generates 444bhp and 738lb ft of torque from its electric powertrain.

Project X features aggressive styling elements including:
– Extended wheel arches
– Large front splitter for downforce
– Exposed rear-mounted electric motor
– Mamba Green paint from Skoda’s vRS performance line

The interior strips away luxury for racing functionality, incorporating:
– Sparco racing seats
– Three-spoke racing wheel
– Digital instrument display
– Hydraulic handbrake

The second conversion, called “Voltavia,” takes a different approach. Created by e-mobility publication Automobile Propre, this estate version maintains more original character while adding modern touches.

Voltavia’s modifications focus on efficiency:
– Front air dam
– Aerodynamic wheels
– Matt Explorer Green finish from Skoda’s Vision 7S concept

The Voltavia produces 102bhp and 162lb ft of torque, prioritizing everyday usability over performance. Its interior keeps the original metal dashboard and two-spoke steering wheel while adding contemporary orange accents found in current Skoda models.

In a nod to urban mobility, the Voltavia includes an electric scooter stored in its boot space.

Both vehicles demonstrate different visions for electrifying classic cars – one embracing high performance, the other focusing on practical daily use.
