Smart #5 arrives in UK priced from under £40000 image

Smart has launched its largest vehicle yet in the UK – the #5 SUV starts at £39,800 and targets popular electric models like the Tesla Model Y and Skoda Enyaq.

The new model marks a shift for Smart. Gone is the sleek styling of the #1 and #3. The #5 embraces a boxy, off-road design with chunky styling that screams family adventure.

Five trim levels give buyers plenty of choice. The entry-level Pro uses a single rear motor making 268bhp. It’s powered by a 74.4kWh battery delivering up to 289 miles of range.

Step up to the Pro+ at £43,800 or Premium at £47,300 and you get a more powerful 358bhp motor. The bigger 94kWh battery extends range to 366 miles.

All-wheel-drive comes standard on Pulse and Summit Edition grades. The second motor boosts power to 580bhp but drops range slightly to 335 miles.

Pulse models focus on off-road capability. Five drive modes include adaptive, sand, snow, mud, and rock settings. Pulse starts at £47,300 while Summit adds £1,500.

Brabus Version Delivers Supercar Performance

The range-topping #5 Brabus ditches off-road pretensions for pure speed. Its two-motor setup produces 637bhp and 524lb ft of torque.

That power launches this 2.3-tonne SUV from 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds. It’s two seconds faster than other all-wheel-drive models and nearly three seconds quicker than the rear-drive Premium.

The Brabus commands £51,800 for its supercar-beating acceleration.

Fast Charging Across the Range

Models with the larger battery use 800V architecture enabling up to 400kW DC charging. A 10-80% charge takes just 18 minutes under ideal conditions.

Pro models charge at 150kW maximum and miss out on the heat pump that’s standard on pricier versions. Every #5 includes vehicle-to-load charging capability.

Standard equipment spans heated front seats, two-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof. The powered tailgate and 13-inch central touchscreen come on all versions.

Higher trim levels add heated rear seats and real leather upholstery. The premium Sennheiser Signature sound system delivers 1,190W of power. Top models include an augmented reality head-up display and a second 13-inch screen for the passenger.

The #5 joins Smart’s existing #1 and #3 models in the Geely-owned brand’s expanding lineup. Next year brings the #2 – an all-electric reimagining of the original Smart fortwo that returns the brand to its city car roots.
