Smart confirms #5 SUV will include Brabus performance edition when it launches later this year.
The range-topping variant will make the #5 the largest and most powerful car Smart has built, competing with hot EVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and potentially the Porsche Macan Electric.
With a 637bhp all-wheel-drive powertrain, the Smart #5 Brabus delivers about 60bhp more than the regular #5. Smart says this allows the performance model to sprint from 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds when using launch control.
The Brabus model includes synthesised engine sounds to enhance the performance feel, though unlike the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, it doesn’t feature simulated transmission effects.
The #5 Brabus isn’t just quick off the line – it’s one of the world’s fastest-charging EVs thanks to its 800V architecture. Using 400kW DC charging, its 100kWh battery can charge from 10-80% in just 18 minutes.
Fully charged, it should deliver 335 miles of range.
Visual distinctions for the Brabus version include 21-inch ‘Monoblock Z’ wheels, red brake calipers, and gloss black and red extended body trim with Brabus badging.
Inside, heated and ventilated front and rear seats feature unique microfibre fabric with Dinamica accents. The model also comes with a microfibre headliner, Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with illuminated Brabus badge and sports pedals.
Additional premium features include a panoramic sunroof, 13-inch OLED displays for driver and front passenger, and a 20-speaker Sennheiser ‘Signature Sound System’.
The Smart #5 Brabus is the new flagship of our still young all-electric product portfolio. This vehicle embodies our vision of electric performance and redefines what customers can expect from an electric SUV with powerful dynamics, top connectivity features and the finest interior craftsmanship for an unmatched driving experience.
Dirk Adelmann, CEO of Smart Europe, made these comments about the new model.
The #5 Brabus completes the Brabus lineup of Smart models, which also includes performance versions of the #1 and #3.
Smart’s relationship with Brabus dates back to the early 2000s when the Mercedes tuning specialist collaborated with Smart on the quirky Smart Roadster Brabus, which produced 99bhp from its 700cc rear-mounted engine.
UK orders for the Smart #5 Brabus will open in Q4 of 2025.
