Subaru Europe announced its all-electric Solterra will debut in the UK as the official safety car for the World Superbike Championship at Donington Park from July 11-13. The partnership makes the Solterra WorldSBK’s first fully electric safety car.

The collaboration began ahead of this season’s opening round in Australia. Subaru’s first EV now handles everything from pre-session track checks to emergency responses during races.

“Subaru’s rich racing heritage makes the WorldSBK championship a perfect match for our brand,” said David Dello Stritto, Subaru Europe general manager.

“Partnering with this distinctive motorsport series aligns Subaru with performance and cutting-edge innovation. It reinforces our core values of driving fun, go-anywhere capability, durability and safety – values that resonate deeply with Subaru and WorldSBK fans alike.”

The safety car role showcases Subaru’s push into electric vehicles across Europe. Other EV safety cars in the championship include the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and MINI Electric.

Dello Stritto emphasized the partnership’s broader significance for the brand’s electric future.

“This collaboration brings our ‘Power On. Ready. Charge.’ motto to life, showcasing the mindset behind our European efforts to introduce new electric models in the region.”

Updated Solterra Coming Soon

Subaru revealed an updated Solterra at the 2025 New York International Motor Show. The new version will arrive before mid-2026 with significant improvements over the current model.

The updated Solterra gets a 25% increase in range thanks to a larger battery pack. It also features 150kW charging capability even in freezing temperatures – addressing one of the biggest concerns EV owners face during winter months.

New Trailseeker Promises More Power

The New York show also marked the debut of Subaru’s Trailseeker – the brand’s first fully in-house developed electric vehicle. The Trailseeker serves as the all-electric equivalent to Subaru’s popular Outback wagon.

UK customers will see the Trailseeker arrive in mid-2026. The electric SUV will feature Subaru’s signature symmetrical all-wheel drive system adapted for electric powertrains.

Under the hood, the Trailseeker packs a twin-motor setup producing 375bhp – significantly more power than the gas-powered Impreza WRX. Subaru claims a 0-60 time of just 4.4 seconds.

The Trailseeker represents one of Subaru’s most important new models in recent years as the brand transitions toward electrification. It’s designed to maintain the go-anywhere capability that Subaru owners expect while delivering the instant torque and efficiency of electric power.

Both new models signal Subaru’s commitment to bringing practical, capable EVs to European markets where electric vehicle adoption continues growing rapidly.
