Subaru has confirmed its all-electric Trailseeker EV estate will arrive in UK showrooms by mid-2026, following its US launch.

The company’s first fully in-house developed EV made its debut at the New York International Motor Show. True to Subaru’s heritage, the Trailseeker features symmetrical all-wheel drive powered by twin motors – one on each axle – delivering 375bhp and a 0-60mph time of 4.4 seconds, outperforming the Impreza WRX.

European WLTP consumption figures remain unreleased, and Subaru hasn’t confirmed if the Trailseeker name will carry over to European markets.

The vehicle’s 74.4kWh lithium-ion battery provides a 260-mile range on the US EPA test cycle and can charge from 10-80% in 25 minutes using a 150kW charger.

Designed as an electric alternative to the Outback estate, the Trailseeker comes equipped with multiple drive modes including snow/deep snow and mud/deep mud options, plus hill descent control. It can tow up to 1,588kg and maintains 210mm of ground clearance – matching the electric Solterra SUV with which it shares the e-SGP platform.

An updated Solterra also appeared at the New York event and will reach markets before the Trailseeker.

The refreshed Solterra features color-coded body panels, redesigned front end, new rear badge and added spoiler. It now offers 25% greater range thanks to a new battery and 150kW charging capability that works even in sub-zero conditions.

Both vehicles share the same all-wheel-drive system and come equipped with a 14-inch infotainment display – the largest ever installed in a Subaru. Standard features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, pre-collision braking, emergency stop assist, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure alert. Additional technology includes 15-watt phone charging for front passengers and USB-C ports in the rear.

Since the Solterra and Trailseeker share their basic platform with Toyota’s bZ4X, the Trailseeker could potentially be a more rugged version of the upcoming Toyota C-HR+.

Subaru has announced plans to have four EVs in its global lineup by the end of 2027, with a third model scheduled for late 2025.
