Tesla launched its Supercharger for Business programme in the UK, allowing companies to install the latest V4 charging units on their premises. The initiative brings Tesla’s ultra-rapid charging technology to both Tesla and non-Tesla vehicles through third-party locations.

How the Programme Works

Companies receive brand-new V4 Superchargers but can apply their own branding and set pricing. Tesla handles maintenance, network operations and driver support behind the scenes.

Businesses have two options for their Supercharger installation. They can keep it private for company fleets and employee vehicles. Or they can open it to public use for any EV brand.

Public installations get added to Tesla’s global network of 70,000 charging devices. The company’s in-car mapping and mobile app automatically route drivers to these locations when they need charging.

UK Market Expansion

Tesla introduced the UK programme just two months after launching it in the United States. The company markets it as “owned by you, managed by Tesla.”

“With over 1.6 million electric vehicles on UK roads – and more expected due to the ZEV mandate – this technology supports the UK’s net zero goals by expanding charging access,” Tesla said announcing the UK launch.

The timing aligns with growing EV adoption across Britain and upcoming Zero Emission Vehicle mandate requirements.

Network Performance and Technology

Tesla’s Supercharging network earned top ratings in the most recent Zapmap EV Driver survey. It won best large rapid/ultra-rapid charging network based on reliability, cost-effectiveness, and integration with navigation and payment systems.

Tesla reports 99% uptime across its charging devices – addressing key concerns about charger reliability and availability.

The V4 Superchargers deliver up to 500kW peak power. This makes them compatible with the fastest-charging EV models currently available.

However, competition is heating up in the ultra-rapid charging space. BYD announced plans to bring its “Flash Charging” technology to Europe, specifically targeting Tesla’s market position.

The Chinese EV manufacturer intends to deploy megawatt devices operating at 1,000kW – potentially adding a mile of range per second of charging.
