Tesla has unveiled its 2025 Model Y Performance, delivering supercar acceleration from a family SUV package. The company launched the high-performance variant nine months after the regular Model Y received its major refresh.

The new Performance model costs £61,990 and features a twin-motor setup producing 460bhp. Tesla claims the SUV will sprint from 0-60mph in just 3.3 seconds.

The powertrain matches the one used in the Model 3 Performance. It delivers 16% more peak torque, 32% more peak power and 22% more continuous power compared to the previous Model Y Performance.

Top speed is limited to 155mph.

Tesla hasn’t revealed specific battery capacity details for the upgraded pack. The company says the new Performance variant will achieve up to 360 miles per charge with energy consumption of 3.85m/kWh.

Chassis and Handling Upgrades

The extra power comes with significant chassis improvements. Tesla fitted adaptive suspension specifically tuned for the Performance model’s requirements.

Engineers redesigned the steering uprights, springs, anti-roll bars and bushings. The rear structure is stiffer to improve body control during hard driving.

The Model Y Performance introduces staggered tire widths for the first time. The tires wrap around new 21-inch Arachnid 2.0 wheels.

Tesla developed a new aerodynamic package to enhance both appearance and performance. A carbon fiber front splitter works with a rear diffuser-style bumper and high-level spoiler to reduce drag and improve front-to-rear balance.

Visual changes include gloss black trim, Performance badges and red brake calipers to distinguish it from standard models.

Interior Updates

The cabin features bespoke Performance seats with improved lateral support and adjustable thigh support. Carbon fiber inserts accent the dashboard.

Tesla upgraded the infotainment system with a higher-resolution 16-inch screen. This replaces the 15.4-inch display used in other Model Y variants.

European customers will receive vehicles built at Tesla’s Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg facility. Orders are open now with UK pricing starting at £61,990 and €61,990 in Ireland.

The launch comes as Tesla faces increased competition in the performance EV SUV segment from traditional automakers and new electric vehicle manufacturers.
